Let’s pair write — but make it remote! A collaboration over 4,617 miles across the pond

When Andrew and I met virtually, there were riots on the streets in his home town Atlanta, Georgia. As you might imagine, in such times, we hardly needed a conversational ice-breaker; we immediately hit it off. We soon met up regularly online, talking about our shared profession in UX writing and dealing with Covid-19, #blm and a parting Trump government in turmoil.

If nothing else, this piece's takeaway is how easy we all could transform inspiring conversations with folks around the whole world into something that stays for the world after the ongoing pandemic.

We usually meet once a month or even twice — on Zoom and now we have our own space in Slack and Notion, too!

First off, what’s pair writing?

I will hand this one over to Vanessa Barlow, who wrote an article on Medium for the Content Design Podcast in 2018:

Pair writing is when you sit down with a colleague to write something together. It cuts out the back and forth of emailing content and asking for feedback by resolving any issues there and then.

You can pair write with a fellow copywriter or content designer to help you tackle some tricky content. Or you can pair write with a stakeholder or subject matter expert, so you can learn from their expertise and requirements for the content, while helping them understand the need to write clearly and…
